CREATIVE RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS

From the Worldwide Web, to school-district calendars, to bulletin boards that grace the walls of community centers, churches, museums, youth organizations, recreational facilities, government-funded agencies and other places, a wealth of information exists on the resources and opportunities available to parents who seek activities and programs that can elevate and/or complement their child’s education. But accessing this information may be an overwhelming task for parents in the throes of daily living, childrearing and home-making responsibilities.

Therefore, one of the tasks of Creative Resources is to not only provide parents with up-to-date information on some of these opportunities, but also to teach parents and parent leaders ways in which they can access this information themselves.

CREATIVE RESOURCES OVERVIEW

The Creative Resources workshop is a parent, parent educator, and community member involvement event designed to assist adults in improving and supporting their children’s academic success through knowledge of “where to find” workshops, activities and educational trips. Our goal is to build and strengthen the knowledge base of parents, parent educator, and community members in an effort to ensure that they are making well-informed decision about their children’s ability to have fun while learning.

Workshops are given, (as requested), our informational session builds and strengthens the capacity of adults to act on behalf of the children, by directing their access to the latest information pertaining to high-quality, parent education and recreation events, and family involvement programs.

Utilizing a “train-the-trainer” approach, the Creative Resources workshop sets the stage for parent leaders to gain access to the strategies, tools, and resources needed to expand opportunities for parents who do not attend the workshop. After completion of the training, the parents, in turn, will have developed a better understanding and awareness of a broad array of resources, opportunities available, including but not limited to:

- School, community, State, and Federal

parent-involvement programs, and services

- Seasonal educational, cultural, and sport-oriented programs for children
